Simulations say ... Red Sox going to World Series

The 2007 League Division Series nearly produced an unprecedented 3-0 sweep by all four divisional winners. In our ALDS preview, we projected the Red Sox and Yankees to advance to the LCS, but we warned that it was critical for both teams to win Game 1. The Red Sox did so behind a Josh Beckett gem and swept the Angels handily. The Yankees, on the other hand, lost the opener in Cleveland and then the series, as the Indians derailed the Bronx Bombers and, in the process, may have brought the tenure of Joe Torre to an end. Simulations say ... Rockies going to World Series

The 2007 League Division Series fell just one Yankees rally shy of an unprecented 3-0 sweep by all four series winners. In our NLDS preview for ESPN.com, we projected the Rockies and Cubs to advance to the League Championship Series; the Rockies swept the Phillies and now have won 17 of their last 18 games, but the Diamondbacks defied the odds against a lackluster Cubs squad. The Pittsburgh Tribune Review uses Diamond Mind Baseball to forecast Barry Bonds' career home run total had he stayed with the Pirates.

Entering the series this weekend between the Pirates and San Francisco Giants, Barry Bonds needs 21 home runs to break Hank Aaron's all-time record.

Had Bonds played his entire career with the Pirates, he would be a bit closer. Bonds, in fact, would have entered the 2007 season with 745 career homers, just 10 shy of Aaron's benchmark.

ESPN uses Diamond Mind Baseball to predict results of 2007 season.

How will the free-agent spending splurge this past winter play out in 2007? Will Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Lee, Gary Matthews Jr., Gil Meche, Juan Pierre and others justify their big contracts, or will they prove to be multiyear financial millstones for their teams? When and where (if at all) will Roger Clemens pitch in 2007? Will the Cinderella team of 2006, the Tigers, go the way of the White Sox, who took the slipper in 2005, and the Red Sox, who ended the Curse in 2004, and fall short of repeating last year's success?
