Projection Disks

Last updated: March 4, 2008
Each spring, we prepare a Projection Disk for the season to come, featuring
updated rosters that incorporate off-season player moves; the new schedule;
projected batting and pitching stats for about 1500 players, including
many top prospects; and manager profiles set up with rotations, lineups,
and depth charts that represent our assessment of how the players will
be used during the season.
NOTE: For more
on how we project batting and pitching statistics, see The
Diamond Mind Projection System.
Even if you're not all that interested in playing simulated games, you
may find that an investment in the DMB game and the Projection Disk will
pay off as you plan for your fantasy baseball season. You can use the
powerful reporting system to generate dozens of standard or customizable
reports using the projected statistics or the statistics from simulated
seasons.
A Projection Disk is just like our Current Season
Disk in many respects, including the ability to start playing
or autoplaying games the moment you install the disk.
But there are some important differences:
| Annual Season Disk |
Projection Disk |
| Includes everyone who appeared in the
big leagues that season |
Includes about 1500 players, including
established big-leaguers and a few hundred top prospects |
| Rosters are based on where each player
played that season |
Rosters reflect all off-season player
moves |
| Player performance is based on how each
player did that season |
Player performance is based on our projections
for the coming season, which are based on results at both the major-
and minor-league level over the past three years |
| Includes real-life transactions and
game-by-game lineups |
These features are irrelevant because
the season hasn't yet been played |
| Includes both the as-scheduled and as-played
schedule for that season |
Includes the as-scheduled schedule for
the coming season |
| Manager profiles are based on how each
player was used that season |
Manager profiles are based on our expectation
of how each player will be used in the coming season |
| Includes player salaries |
Does not include salaries because that
information usually isn't published until after the projection disk
is released |
