Version 8A Patch

Last updated: April 25, 2001
This page summarizes the changes that were made in the version 8A patch
that was released in February, 2001.
Because a more recent patch is now available, there is no longer any
need for you to download the version 8A patch. The version 8B and subsequent
patches include everything that was in the 8A patch. In other words, you
need only install the latest patch to get all enhancements and corrections
that have come before it.
For general information on downloading and installing version 8 patches,
and for links to other patches that have been released to date, please
see the Version 8 Patches page.
Bug fixes and improvements in the version 8A patch
The following list describes most of the corrections that have been made
in this patch. In addition to these items, we have also cleaned up a few
other things that have been reported by only a few customers, such as
making sure the tab sequence on certain dialogs is correct, handling some
error conditions more gracefully, and fixing a few glitches in the play-by-play
commentary.
Bugs fixed in the version 8A patch:
- multiple copies of the baseball.ini file were being created in different
folders
- unable to install season disk from path with embedded spaces
- able to manually draft a player before draft order frozen
- innings pitched not set correctly when creating pitchers or modifying
their event tables; this also caused invalid event table data to be store
(see below for important information about how to ensure that you end
up with correct event tables for these pitchers)
- player creation crashed if you failed to set the role, batting hand
or throwing hand on the first page
- schedule generator window didn't fit on the screen at 640 x 480 resolution
- draft settings were not being displayed correctly when viewed after
initial draft creation; this could cause draft picks to be incorrectly
renumbered if picks were deleted later
- layout of the free agent reports in the draft window was improved
- attempt to play a scheduled game crashed if an Organization existed
but didn't yet have a valid schedule
- you can now insert a reliever in a DH game using popup menus
- attempt to mark players as ineligible is now handled correctly
- lineup selection window now displays the number of times a reliever
has been warmed up (for use when the bullpen warmup rule is in effect)
- when starting an exhibition game, changing the database of the home
team didn't update the selection of the home park
- the wins and losses for post season games are now correctly updated
in all cases
- switch hitters were not moving to the other side of the plate when
a relief pitcher was inserted (affected the display only, not the generation
of play outcomes)
- pitch counts for fatigue purposes are now correctly displayed on the
Status tab of the player profile window
- the game was crashing when users attempted to generate certain reports
for all teams in an Organization
- register reports now sort correctly on the Team column when free agents
appear in the report
- age column added to pitching register reports
- tactics buttons incorrect after viewing lineups at end of game
- some Transfer commands (exporting league statistics) would fail if
you had not yet assigned a schedule to your league or organization
Correcting event tables for pitchers
Prior to installing the version 8A patch, when you created a pitcher
or modified the pitching event table for a pitcher, using either the Overall
or Left/right method, DMB8 was incorrectly creating the event table for
that pitcher. As a result, any pitchers that you created or whose pitching
event tables you modified prior to installing the version 8A patch, will
not perform according to the statistics you entered for them.
NOTE: This bug does not affect (a) players on any season disks
that we have created, (b) pitchers that you may have created in prior
versions of DMB and then converted to version 8, (c) batters that you
have created or modified, or (d) pitchers that you may have modified in
other ways -- basic player info, pitching statistics, or ratings -- besides
the pitching event table.
After you have installed the version 8A patch, you can generate correct
event tables for these pitchers without having to re-enter their stats
and ratings. To do so, open the Organizer window, and select each player,
choose the Modify pitching event table command, make sure the right
options (era, park, creation method) are selected, then click OK to re-generate
the event table using the stats you previously entered.
We are very sorry about this error. We know that player creation is a
time-consuming process, and we regret that our mistake has caused you
to take even more time to revisit those players to ensure that they are
created correctly.
