Version 9 Patches

Last updated: July 19, 2007

Using the links at the bottom of this page, you can download the latest patch for Diamond Mind Baseball version 9.

A patch is not a complete copy of the game; it includes only the changes that have been made since version 9 was first released.

Installing a patch

Before you install the patch, complete any games currently in progress and make sure that DMB is completely shut down.

When you download the patch, it is saved on your hard drive in the location that you specified. You may be able to install it immediately by clicking on the Open button of the window that shows the status of your download. For example, the following window will appear if you are using Internet Explorer:

If you choose to wait and install the patch later, you can do so by finding the downloaded file using Windows Explorer (or some other tool for browsing your hard drive) and double-clicking on that file to begin the installation process.

When you start the installation process, you will be asked where you would like to install the patch. The installation program suggests c:\dmb9, which matches the suggested location in the DMB installation program. If you changed this location when you installed DMB initially, you must specify the same location when you install the patch.

Installing the patch will not affect any of your settings or any of your player ratings, statistics or other data that is stored in a DMB database. After installing the patch, you can continue to use DMB9 and your databases without interruption of any kind.

Keeping track of versions

If we release more than one patch, we will identify each patch with a different letter: a, b, c and so on. Within a few days of the release of each patch, we will also create new master CDs that will be used for any new shipments of version 9 games and upgrades. In other words, if you purchased DMB9 after the latest patch was released, chances are you do not need to download and install any patches; those corrections will already be included in the version we shipped to you on CD.

To find out whether your copy of DMB9 has already been updated, start the game and choose the About Diamond Mind Baseball command on the Help menu. If the window that pops up reads "version 9c", for example, you know you already have the corrections that were made in all patches up to and including the version 9c patch.

Do I need to install every patch?

We recommend that you install each patch as it becomes available so you have immediate access to the improvements and corrections that we have made. If, however, you have not yet installed a previous patch, you can proceed directly to the latest one. Each patch includes all of the changes made in the previous patches as well, so it is NOT necessary to install the prior patches to get everything.

NetPlay compatibility

If any of the bug fixes or enhancements included in a patch have an impact on the message traffic that is exchanged during a NetPlay session, we update an internal "NetPlay version number" to reflect that fact. When you try to connect for a NetPlay session, the two computers exchange these version numbers to ensure that they are compatible enough to play games. If the version numbers don't match, each user will see a message explaining that the connection was rejected because of version incompatibility.

The version 9a, 9b and 9c patches do affect NetPlay message traffic. To play NetPlay games, the 9a, 9b or 9c patch must have been applied on both computers. (Or neither.)

Patches and DMB leagues

We rarely make changes in a patch that would cause incompatibility problems for leagues that transfer statistics from one computer to another. In other words, it is usually not necessary for all league members to have applied the same patches, though it is a good idea for all league members to be up to date with the latest fixes so the game's behavior is the same for all managers in the league.

Windows Vista Compatibility

In order to make DMB compatible with Windows Vista, you must download and install the 9c Patch.

- Download the patch and save it in your dmb9 folder

- After you download the patch, click on the Windows Start button and choose “Computer,” the Vista version of My Computer

- Open your c: drive and open the folder where you downloaded the patch

- Find the file named dmb9c.exe. It might also just be named dmb9c

- Right-click on the dmb9c file and choose Properties from the menu. At the bottom of the General page of the Properties window, look for a button labeled “Unblock” and click on it if you find it

- Now click on the Compatibility tab of the Properties window. At the bottom of the page in the Privilege Level section, check the box next to “Run this program as an administrator.”

- Click on the Apply button and then click on the OK button. This will put you back into Windows’ Computer

- Before you start the patch process, make sure that DMB is shut down. Now, double-click on the dmb9c file to start the patch installation. Specify the Destination Location folder where DMB is located (probably the dmb9 folder) and continue with the patch installation

- After the patch has been installed, go to and open your game folder where you applied the 9c Patch (probably dmb9)

- Right-click on the baseball.exe (or baseball) file with the green, DMB logo next to it and choose Properties. If there’s an “Unblock” button near the bottom of the General page, click on it

- Now click on the Compatibility tab at the top of the Properties page. At the bottom of the page in the Privilege Level section, check the box next to “Run this program as an administrator.”

- Click on the Apply button and then the OK button

- You should now be able to run DMB under Windows Vista.
