Version 9a Patch

Last updated: May 18, 2004

This page describes the bug fixes that are included in the version 9a patch. You can download the patch files by clicking on the links at the bottom of this page.

Because the version 9 game and the version 9 encyclopedia are shipped as separate Windows programs, we've provided patch files for each of those programs. If you use the Encyclopedia, you'll need to download and install both of them in order to get all of the changes.

The version 9a patch includes all bug fixes and enhancements that have been made since version 9 was first released, so this is the only patch you need to install in order to get your copy of Diamond Mind Baseball completely up to date.

For general information on downloading and installing version 9 patches, and for links to pages describing the changes in other patches that have been released to date, please see the Version 9 Patches page.

Bugs fixed in the version 9a patch

The following list describes most of the corrections that have been made in this patch. In addition to the listed items, we have also corrected minor problems with a few reports, fixed a few glitches in the play-by-play commentary, and cleanup up some anomalies in the user interface.

- fixed a NetPlay bug in which the substitution window might display in a size too small to work with when a mandatory substitution is required and the chat window is active at the time the substitution window is displayed

- fixed two timing bugs in NetPlay games, one involving intentional walks and one involving run/throw decisions. In both cases, the problem arose only when the two managers were using different settings for the speed of the play-by-play commentary and one manager (the one with the faster setting) entered a decision before the other computer was still busy displaying play by play commentary.

- fixed a bug involving the Quick 1-1 command when the computer manager was handling the offense and a human manager the defense. The Quick 1-1 command was acting like the Quick 1-1-1 command, always choosing the swing away option for the offense rather than asking the computer manager to choose a strategy.

- fixed a bug in which it was possible to illegally replace a pitcher who had yet to face a batter or retire the side. This problem occurred only when changing pitchers directly from the bullpen window on the main game window; the rule was being correctly enforced when changes were made through the substitution window.

- fixed a bug in which the game would sometimes behave incorrectly when the defense chose to throw to second on a double steal

- restored the ability to make players ineligible on a team being handled by the computer manager

- corrected the sequence of the manager tendencies section of the manager profile report (the one that shows in the Report tab of the Roster/MP window). Previoiusly, the labels for the last three tendencies were in the wrong order, though the settings were being stored correctly and used in the game correctly.

- previously, when creating a pitcher using the "Overall" method and with the option to have DMB estimate 2B and 3B allowed, DMB was correctly using the values you entered to create an event table for the pitcher, but was subsequently replacing those values with estimated figures for 2B and 3B allowed, giving the false impression that the entered values were ignored. This has been fixed.

- in the Encyclopedia, fixed a bug in web site generation that sometimes caused the league game results report to be empty
